On our second day in Siem Reap, we travelled to the #Kulen Mountain or the Lychee Mountain. It's significance is plenty in #Cambodian history and culture. . . . 1. It is home to lychees, harvested every 5th year. It gave their agriculture a boost. . . . 2. Kbal Spean, an archaeological site, where the 1000 Shiv Linga river flows through the mountain. The river bed is covered with thousand, if not more, Shiva, Hanuman, Rama, Vishnu, Brahma sculptures and those of Hindu holy animals. The first sculpture is thought to be made in the 9th centure and continued to be sculptured through the 12th century. It is believed that the God sent water (rain) is further purified and blessed because of the lingas and is as pure as #Ganga. It is also called the power path for the Kings. (Videos in the highlights) . . . 3. At the end of the river is the #KulenWaterfall. Between the lush rainforest, where warriors used to bathe once to feel stronger - because the river water was being purified by the Shiva's. . . . The history was interesting and the location scenic. The only issue I had was that it was horribly polluted; plastic everywhere and crowded. Pic 1 - A model of the floating villages. We didn't visit the original village as the tides are low and wouldn't have been as scenic. But this representation would suffice . . . Pic 2 - Lotus! Though not #Cambodia's national flower, it is found in abundance around the city of #SiemReap because it is their holy flower and grows in muddy areas . . . Pic 4 & 5 - So they had a farm within the #CulturalVillage , which depicted most of their agriculture and living style. Women were hard at work when @shahzaib_wahlah took there photo. Plus there were domestic animals like ducks, geese and hens. Our first day in the city of #siemreap was spent at the #Cambodian Cultural Village, to get a glimpse into their history and lifestyle. . . . Cambodian has a rich history, was ruled by Hindus in the past until a Buddhist ruler came who converted the population.
